Recieved my three custom tunes today from Mike @ Sinister. They have 5 tunes to choose from, but since I only have head bolts and not studs, I went with the Econo, Street, and Tow tunes. The other two tunes they offered were a studded Tow and studed Street tune. I had a few hours to play around with em, and heres my initial thoughts:

I loaded the Econo tune first. (+25hp & +50tq)Noticeable throttle response, and power increase. Shifting was pretty dang smooth. Acceleration was noticeably better as well. As far as the economy (mpg's) were concerned, I'll follow up later. Wouldnt have been a good day to post with my heavy foot. All in all, I like this tune. Noticeable improvement, not a placebo.

Second was the Street tune. (+100hp & 150tq) WOW! Broke my 35's loose with little effort. Rolling 0-60, and 60-90 planted in me in the seat. Power was great! Shifting was a little firmer than the Econo tune too. Bottom line, it felt like a whole new engine and tranny.

Third was the Tow tune. (+60hp & +160tq) It felt right between the Econo and Street tune, but since I didnt feel like hooking up my travel trailer, Ill post back later on that too.

I dont have any other custom tunes to compare mine to, but Im pretty dang happy with what Mike was able to do. And for the price ($379 w/ the custom tunes), I give it a 10!

Thanks Sinister/MKM Customs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mah

Did you notice more gains with the tuner than your 4" turbo back exhaust & Zoo daad mods?

How about your EGT? How have they changed?

I didn't notice a performance gain. EGT's ran about 80* cooler, and the sound with the cat removed was bone chilling. Here's my post on the exhaust: http://www.powerstroke.org/forum/general-6-0l-discussion/178963-my-final-thoughts-mbrp-exhaust-system.html

What did the turbo back exhaust cost? Have you pulled a load yet and notice more highway cab noise levels?

How did your EGTs change when you added you SCT?

I got my exhaust for $325 w/ the performance muffler. No increased cab noise levels.

EGTs didn't really change any with cruise control set. Accelerating, it's hard to tell. I've only recorded temps with cruise set.

Ok,

I had 4" installed at the end of the down pipe (from turbo down to first joint is still OEM 3.5 inch), and removed the cat & large muffler, ran 4" to new a Flo Pro 8" muffler, and then 4" tail pipe. SO all new 4" pipe except at the turbo down to the first horizontal plain. Its fairly quite, but you can here the whistle of the turbo alittle more. I'm not sure I can tell a difference in toqure or hp, but I didnt floor it either.

I also installed the fuel regulator replacement spring today. Took it for a short test drive, but tomorrow, I will test the cold weather startup, and the interstate hwy for a test. I'm curious if my startup is easier, and the engine smoothness and hp has improved.

Next is the installation of the EGT probe, and SCT programmer (I'm lookin towards Ecnonmy, street, and tow tunes for my truck

Glad you guys are having luck with mike's economy tune. I gained nothing hand calculated out. Still waiting for a changed tune a week after talking with him.

Mikes going to really write a tune for you... that's pretty sweet... cause my lie-o-mwter says u actually lost MPG with it. I'm I'm the process of hand calculating it.

Anyone tried the extreme studed tune? And what do mikes tunes cost?

#11 ·
All they have on their website is $40 a tune. Not sure what other deals they have, I bought my livewire from them and it came with tunes.

I think he said $25 each.

I just bought the same thing from mkm so i'll throw in my input after the holiday driving. Glad to hear that most people like it so far.

I've had a little time with the tunes now and I really like them.

with the econ tune, i got 17.8 mpg driving 2hr on highway at 65-70 not using cruise (I normally get 14-15). These numbers are hand calculated from my odometer which hasnt been corrected for the 35" mtrs.

The street tune was a nice kick in the a$$ compared to stock. I didnt get on it with the econ tune because i was trying to max the mpg's, but the street tune feels good. I broke the tires free many times in situations where they would've stuck with the normal tunes. I only saw egts of 1200, but i really wasnt on it for extended periods of time.

Having said all of that, i dont have anything to compare my experiences to. This is my first diesel and the only diesel i've been in with tunes and these are the only tunes i have. I can say that i have never felt/seen increases like these for the money before, but again this is my first diesel. Hope this helps.
