If there's something wrong with your engine, then I have something wrong with mine. Mine sounds the same, and I was a little worried too, but I've heard the noise for probably 30k, and now think it's just the noise from a 6.0. It would have blown up by now if it were a real issue. I DO need a FICM too, but that didn't start happening until recently

I don't think it's abnormal :thumb:

I never heard this knock before so I know that my engine is capable of sounding better. I'm really not paranoid about the noise these engines make. I just know for a fact that I never heard this knock until after I deleted my egr. However, I tested my ficm At startup with a cold engine and my volts were 35. So maybe that is where the knock is coming from. I also have the p0611 code.

The FICM could be the root of the issue, not firing an injector as specified :dunno:. Mine is going out too

Ordered a rebuilt 58v FICM from Swamps and installed it today, What a world of difference. Engine knock is gone. Engine sounds very tight and has lots of power now.

Did your engine have a knocking noise kind of like valve chattering just when the injectors started to open up(light acceleration)?
mine sounds the same but the noise is louder under light acceleration, and much louder when the engine is run for 2 hrs on the hwy towing my trailer.

what kind of oil are you using? what year is your truck? if using a thin oil it may be the cause and if your truck is over 6 years old or you have a lot of miles maybe you need fresh coolant your truck may be getting just a little warmer then normal and its thinning the oil out more then normal.

Sorry not trying to hijack this thread.
the truck is a 2006 f350 with 140 kms on it .the oil is done at the dealer when the h/g's studs, egr delete and oil cooler.check out my thread 6.0 knocking sig is CLAY/04..and the oil should be 15w40 as per the dealer 5000 kms ago..thanks

I'm actually hearing the same problem on my 04 f250. It has 140k miles on it, completely stock besides an egr delete. First time I started hearing this was when I was at a red light, with my windows down, sitting next to this car. I then got home and stepped outside listening for it. It seems to be coming front the passenger side. You can hear it from the inside the wheel well more than with the hood open. I did just buy a new ficm and had it reflashed by my ford dealership. They did not inform me about any other problems. Im going to try to get a video up soon. It's just like what he said though, a ticking sound that actually goes with the rpm's of the truck. Im kind of lost on this right now. Please help, thanks!

Edit: Also it feels like it has plenty of power and is not missing at all. Maybe one can tell me what else to look for due to sounds or something? Also, you can hear this noise while parked and running. Well heres a video of the early morning start up and well, you can still hear it. This sound is driving me crazy :(

I thought my new FICM fixed my problem but the knock is still there. Sure hope we can figure this out. It's driving me up the wall !!!!

does it kind of sound like the one in my video? that one is driving me crazy!

I've got an 05 F-350 6.0, currently running syn blend from local dealer (which I plan on swapping for full syn on my next oil change) and I have the same noise but it's driver side. Just had FICM repaired by Ed at FICM Repair.com. (awesome guy, awesome job)

I've read several threads on this noise and apparently a LOT of 6.0s make this sound with no immediate negative impact. My guess would be an injector, especially on my truck, as it is closing on 140,000 miles. I'm due for new injectors all around and have has a pesky P0269 (#3 contribution balance fault) code that I can't get rid of, even after fixed FICM and replacing the #3 injector with a reman.

Do a compession test on that #3, it may be a physical cylinder problem.
I did the "oil fill cap" blow by test and it seemed fine, the only reason the lid wouldn't stay on the tube was due to vibration. Plus the problem is intermittent at this point anyway. If the cylinder/piston was damaged I would think that it the P0269 code, smoke and rough idle would be present every time the engine was running. The only constant at this point is a little smoke on start up.

I never have figured it out. My P 0269 code ended up being a smoked piston and I basically rebuilt my engine as a result. I've put 10,000 miles on it since the rebuild and the knocking noise has never left. I run Rotella T6 now which has quieted everything down a little but the noise is still there. I'm not worried about it anymore.

sounds like mine on a cold start. the only thing i can find is a small exhaust leak at the passenger side exhaust manifold. last stud on the bottom closest to the firewall.

are you sure its not an exhaust leak? im not about to try and tighten it. last thing i need is a broken stud in the head. as soon as it warms up even a little, it seals itself back. ive only noticed it when the temps are in the mid to low 30's and lower.

also, if you did the up pipe replacement when you did youre EGR delete, recheck your exhaust connections. i had to retighten the lower connection at the manifold after a quick trip down the road.
