I'm doing a paper on which is better for hauling horse trailers. I prefer a diesel dually but I wanted to know what other peoples oppions are and why, thanks guys!

depends on lot's of variables: size of trailer, # of animals in the trailer, miles traveled per trip and per year,
smaller trailer and trips srw gas has enough power and weight capacity and is more cost effective
longer trips: diesel over gas
larger trailers; duals over singles.

I agree completely.

Advantages of diesel:
Better fuel mileage, more torque and horsepower, last longer that a gas motor
Advantages of gas:
Fuel costs less, lower cost of maintenence, lighter weight

Advantages of dually:
Higher towing/hauling capacity, more stability
Advantages for single wheel:
Width of vehicle, lower cost of tire replacement

It's obvious which one I prefer!! :icon_ford::thumb:

Good luck,

How do you figure a single rear wheel truck can haul more ?????? Are you running super singles .....

To answer the question , I have had Gas single rear wheel trucks , gas duallys , diesel srw , and diesel duallys . I pull a horse trailer on a regular basis . I have a Bumper pull 2 horse slant with tack room and a gooseneck 4 horse slant with living quarters (I did the install) and tack room . Both are Featherlites . I own 5 trucks , 3 of the 5 are Diesel Duallys . 1 F-350 and 2 F-550s . These are the trucks I pull the trailers with . You can't even compare towing with a single rear wheel vs. a dually . Not even in the same realm . Now if I am just running around I drive the 2011 F-150 .

The reason is stability . A dual rear wheel truck was built exactly for this reason , pull more weight with more stability .

after reading her initial thread and what was asked. "what is better for hauling a horse trailer" the answer is a no brainer. she didnt ask about gas milage, handling, parking, going through the drivethru or if you can park close to the door at the supermarket.

simple question...best truck to haul a horse trailer

if you needed to haul a horse trailer, and price is NO object nor space nor anything else. what would you rent?

answer... diesel 350, 450, 550 drw with a gooseneck. end of discussion.
